We Visited LEGOLAND California’s BRAND NEW LEGO® Galaxy Land and It Did Not Disappoint!

A personal family review , tips & everything you need to know before you go in 2026

Last weekend, our family made the trip to LEGOLAND California Resort in Carlsbad and wow, did we pick the right time to go. The park just launched its biggest expansion in nearly two decades: LEGO® Galaxy, an all-new space-themed land that genuinely lived up to every bit of the hype. If you’ve been on the fence about visiting this year, let this be your sign. Read on for my honest take on everything new, plus tips, pricing, and all the practical info you need to plan your own trip.

Welcome to LEGO Galaxy – The Biggest Thing to Hit LEGOLAND in 20 Years

LEGO Galaxy officially opened on March 6, 2026, and it is, without question, the most ambitious expansion in LEGOLAND California’s history. It is said that this new land is built from over 583,000 LEGO bricks scattered across massive, jaw-dropping space-themed sculptures and displays. The moment you walk in, you feel like you’ve been transported into deep space in the most brick-tastic way possible.

This isn’t just a new ride tacked onto an existing area. LEGO Galaxy is a fully immersive world with three brand-new rides, a toddler play zone, an interactive building area, galactic dining, a themed retail shop, and even brand-new alien characters to meet. Here’s the full breakdown of everything inside:

The 3 New Rides in LEGO Galaxy

1. Galacticoaster – The Star of the Show

This is the one everyone is talking about, and for good reason. Galacticoaster is LEGOLAND California’s first new roller coaster in nearly 20 years, and it is absolutely worth the wait. This indoor family coaster takes riders on a fully customizable space adventure and that’s what makes it unlike anything else at any theme park right now.

Before you board, your team of four gets to design your very own LEGO spacecraft at digital Customization Bays, choosing your nose, tail, wings, and a special feature. With over 625 unique spacecraft combinations, your ride is genuinely different every time. Once you’re launched, your custom spacecraft actually shows up during the coaster experience.

The lines were not bad at all when we visited, we walked right through with just 10 minute wait. Definitely try to get there early, though, as this one will only get more popular as word spreads.

2. G-Force Test Facility

This family-friendly ride challenges guests to swing, turn, and tilt through the same kinds of forces astronauts experience in space. It’s a motion-packed adventure that works well for families with slightly older kids who aren’t quite ready for a roller coaster but still want something with some kick to it. We had a blast on this one.

3. DUPLO Launch and Land

Designed for the littlest space explorers, this toddler-friendly flight simulator lets small children “take off” and “land” in a safe, playful environment. Our little one absolutely loved feeling like a real astronaut, this is such a thoughtful addition for families traveling with toddlers and preschoolers.

Junior Astronaut Training Zone – A Toddler Play Area That Actually Delivers

One of my favorite things about LEGO Galaxy is that it clearly thought of everyone in the family. The Junior Astronaut Training Zone is a dedicated play zone for the youngest kids, a full cosmic playground where toddlers and small children can explore, climb, and stretch their space legs at their own pace. While the big kids hit the coaster, the little ones had their own universe to explore. We didn’t feel like we had to rush anyone along, there was truly something for every age in this land.

Rocket Assembly Bay- Interactive Fun for Big Kids (and Honestly, Adults Too)

The Rocket Assembly Bay is a state-of-the-art LEGO building zone where kids (and let’s be honest, parents) can build their own LEGO rocket and then digitally scan it and blast it into cyberspace. My kids were obsessed with this. It’s a perfect blend of creativity and technology, very LEGO, very fun, and a nice breather between rides. Plan to spend more time here than you think you will.

U.F.O. (Ultimate Food Outlet) – Yes, the Themed Café Lives Up to the Name

Every great land needs a great place to eat, and LEGO Galaxy’s U.F.O. – Ultimate Food Outlet does not disappoint. The menu is genuinely creative and fun: we’re talking Nebula Noodles, Stellar Crusts (cosmic-inspired pizza-style dishes), and more. For something sweet, hit Stardust Sips & Sweets for cosmic desserts, or Satellite Bites for quick snacks to fuel your next mission. Everything is themed to the max, and the food quality was solid, not your typical theme park fare. Eating here is part of the experience, not just a pit stop.

Orbital Outpost – The New Galaxy Themed Store

You won’t be able to walk past the Orbital Outpost without stopping , this is the exclusive LEGO Galaxy merchandise shop, stocked with galaxy-themed LEGO sets, apparel, and souvenirs you genuinely won’t find anywhere else. Fair warning: budget extra time (and extra funds) here. The exclusive LEGO Galaxy merchandise is really well done and feels like a worthy keepsake from the experience.

Meet the New Alien Characters

LEGO Galaxy also introduced brand-new alien characters to the LEGOLAND California roster. Space Creature and their cosmic crew are featured in a live show called “Mission: Blast Off!” at the Fun Town Stage- an energetic, interactive dance party . The whole family (yes, including the adults) gets invited to help power up the spacecraft. The show runs three times daily and includes a full cast meet-and-greet. Our kids were completely enamored, and the meet-and-greet after was a highlight of the whole day.

Complimentary Lockers in LEGO Galaxy

This is a detail I really appreciated that you won’t find many places: LEGO Galaxy offers complimentary lockers for guests who want to do the rides and it’s free for up to 2 hours. Leave your bags, strollers, and gear secured before hopping on Galacticoaster or G-Force Test Facility. It’s a small touch that makes a huge difference for families lugging around a lot of stuff. Just head to the locker area when you arrive in the land.

LEGOLAND Water Park Is Open for the 2026 Season!

Spring is officially here, and so is the LEGOLAND Water Park – it reopened for the 2026 season on March 21, 2026, and runs through summer. Whether you’re visiting this spring or planning a summer trip, the Water Park is a fantastic add-on. It features over 10 million gallons of water fun suitable for all ages

Family Tips for Visiting LEGOLAND California in 2026

After our visit, here’s what we’d tell any family planning a trip:

1. Head to LEGO Galaxy First Thing LEGO Galaxy is brand new, and word is getting out fast. Make it your first stop when the park opens to experience Galacticoaster before lines build up. We walked right on during the morning.

2. Use the Free Lockers in LEGO Galaxy Stash your bags before hitting the rides – the complimentary 2-hour lockers in the land are a game changer for families with strollers and gear.

3. Plan Around the “Mission: Blast Off!” Show Times Check the daily schedule when you arrive and work the show into your day. It runs three times and the meet-and-greet afterward is worth staying for , especially if you have younger kids who love the characters.

4. The Rocket Assembly Bay Absorbs More Time Than You’d Think Budget at least 30-45 minutes here. Kids (and parents) will want to keep building. It’s one of the best hands-on LEGO experiences in the park.

5. Bring a Change of Clothes if Doing the Water Park If you’re adding on the Water Park, guests are required to be fully clothed when walking through the main park , so a change into swimwear and back is essential. Bring water shoes or crocs; the ground gets very hot.

6. Add the Water Park in the Afternoon Spend the morning in LEGO Galaxy and the rest of the theme park, then head to the Water Park in the afternoon heat. It’s a natural flow for the day.

7. Download the LEGOLAND App Before You Go Check daily ride times, show schedules, and dining hours directly in the app. It’s your best tool for navigating a full day at the park.

8. Buy Everything Online in Advance Tickets, parking, and even Water Park upgrades, buy it all online before your trip to save significantly. Gate prices are steep, and there’s no need to pay them.

9. Kids Under 2 Are Free, Toddlers Get Their Own World Children under 2 get free theme park admission. If your toddler is 12-23 months, you’ll need a $5 Water Park toddler ticket for that add-on. The park is genuinely one of the most toddler-friendly theme parks in Southern California.

10. Consider a Weekday Visit During Spring Lines were noticeably shorter on our weekend visit than summer crowds tend to be. A weekday visit in spring or early fall is even better for beating the crowds.

Final Verdict

LEGO Galaxy is the real deal. It’s not just a new ride , it’s a fully realized, immersive universe that somehow manages to be perfect for toddlers, big kids, LEGO enthusiasts, and parents all at once. Between the first-of-its-kind Galacticoaster experience, the Junior Astronaut Training Zone, the Rocket Assembly Bay, the themed dining at U.F.O., and the new characters, this land genuinely earns its status as the most ambitious expansion in LEGOLAND California’s history.

Add in the Water Park being back open for the season, and 2026 is shaping up to be one of the best years yet to visit. We’re already talking about going back.
