The Mosaic Tile House at Venice, Los Angeles

by eazynazy

As most of you know , we are art lovers and If you are like us, then i am sure you would jump out of your chair when you read where we were this weekend. We’ve been to THE MOSAIC TILE HOUSE.

Front Yard

Hidden gems makes me more excited and while i was searching for hidden gems in Los Angeles , I came across this living colorful house.

Before you proceed I would like to say “Pictures don’t do Justice to this place”

The Mosaic Tile House is a home of a wonderful couple Cheri and Gonzalo. The couple offers tours of their home to visitors and Gonzalo says, It was never their intention of making their home look like what it is now and open it to public. It was made just out of pure love for Art and began with a few tiles but before they knew they had the entire house covered. And after a huge demand they started allowing people to walk in to their house and get inspired.

Every Inch of this place is covered with colorful tiles and it took 25 years for this couple to build this beautiful house.

One thing I loved about this place was, the materials with which they covered their house are the recycled donations. This is a brilliant idea which inspires the younger generation to convert any waste/unused/broken things into a fine piece of Art.

There are endless details which definitely amaze you

Since 1994, the couple has been transforming their old bland house into a Masterpiece that you see today. Cheri makes & glazes the tiles and Gonzalo know exactly where to place them.

A Door made of Spoons and Forks

On our tour Gonzalo took us back into their workshop and shared their beautiful love story of how it all started. He also showed us how they work on their ideas before they start making the tiles.

The workshop

We were so amazed to see the Huge paintings hung on the wall and you will also find 48 portraits of Gonzalo which were all done by Cheri Pann.

At the end of our tour we were feeling awestruck when we saw Angel Wings made in their Mosaic style.

Wow, what an amazing labor of love, to create a place like that! How beautiful! I especially like the angel wings and how people can stand in front and make it look like THEY have wings! I wonder if that was the couple’s intention?

Yes , the wings are the new addition to the Mosaic House so that people can walk in and take pictures with it 😊

Whoa! That’s a super interesting place. The couple must have been inspired by Antoni Gaudi of Spain. His constructions are completely made like this! It’s rather impressive that they make their own tiles!
